Part 3: Princess Serenity's Shoulder Accessories

Monday, November 04, 2013

This is the last of the series of my Princess Serenity Tutorial.  Check out Part 1 and Part 2.
I liked how my shoulder puffs? came out, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite way to make them.  I was short on time and I also didn't want to make anything complicated for this costume.  Ideally I would have like to make them into stiffer round puff sleeves and more accurate.

My approach here was a simple elastic band loop, that fits snugly under the arm.  I used excess white fabric from the dress to make these shoulder puffs.  I wrapped it around the elastic band and sewed it down loosely.

I basically cut strips of fabric, that I curled into a round flat ball, and sewed it down, so it will not come loose or fall apart.  It pretty hard to explain or show in picture.  But hopefully they give an idea.  Just sew in all areas so it does not fall apart.  Keep layering around it until you are satisfied with the size.

What the backside looks like. This would be the part that is sewn down on the elastic band.  I made one for the front and the back side of the shoulder pad.

Here it is sewn on one side.

Serenity's puffs have a swirl to them, so I found a little crochet lace ribbon in my house that I sewed in a circle swirl.

I completed my costume with a craft foam crescent sign on my forehead that I spray painted gold.  I got different sized pearls and 2 bobby pins and glued them on using E6000.  I layered pearl necklaces from Forever 21.  Wig was bought from Ebay.
