I made a Princess Serenity costume this year for Otakon. This post will focus on how I made the gold circles on her dress. Coming soon is Part 2 for her draping back bow. Part 3 will give some tips on how I approached the shoulder decorations. Wig was bought from Ebay and dress was made from a light chiffon type material.

I tried searching for ideas on how to make a No Face mask, but didn't find anything I was hoping for. So I made a tutorial on how I made it, hope it will be useful for others too. I am still learning how to use new types materials in my cosplays. I wanted to make a mask that was big enough to be realistic, but not so large that it is too animated. I wanted it to have the creepy blank expression it had in the movie too. It also had to be really tall in comparison to me as Chihiro (since I am pretty average height of 5'3..for an asian. and luckily my fiance is also 6'3!), and I wanted it to have a concave and smooth surface. After doing some research and debating for quite a while, I decided on using foam, paper mache, and paper clay. I am also using the mouth as the opening to for the eyes too look out of (this can add up to 7 inches to your height!).

Materials used:
- 2 6mm 9x12 thick foam
- newspaper
- glue
- water
- 2 packs paper clay
- x-acto knife
- acrylic paint
- iron
- rolling pin
- saran wrap
Step 1: Sketch out a template
I based it off the size of TWO thick 6mm 9x12 craft foam put side by side. I used this image of No Face as one of my references.
Step 2: Cut out the Foam Base
Use a glue gun and glue together the 2 pieces of thick foam. After it is dry, trace and cut out the mask with your x-acto knife or box cutter. Cut out the mouth opening.
Step 3: Iron and shape
Using an iron in low heat, slowly bend and heat the mask on all ends and both sides. It should slowly bend and curve in the desired mask shape. This way your mask won't be completely flat.
Just a quick update, since I had to go straight to Philadelphia for work this week after the convention. This was my second year at Otakon! It was a lot of fun but also very tiring. Since I am part of staff, I see a limited part of the convention and work during the con hours. I was able to enjoy wearing my cosplays and join in on some photoshoots gatherings. My cosplay line up was Friday - Princess Serenity from Sailormoon, Saturday - Spellthief Lux from League of Legends, and Sunday - Chihiro with No Face from Spirited Away
These are all new costumes I made this year. Im suprised I accomplished this much and very happy with how they all came out. It was my first time wearing Princess Serenity at Otakon. I did a group with my friends who cosplayed Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, and Prince Darian. This costume was not too complicated. I will describe how I made it and materials I used in a future post, stay tuned :)
I love my Lux costume. I spent most of the time making the hood. I used a pattern and sewed it up, with purple fabric for the rims, and even the detailed patches on the back. I used a lavender fabric paint to make the designs on it. The staff was made out of a wood branch and covered with paper clay. It was then painted with acrylic paint. It was very easy to walk around in and its always fun to have a prop XD
This was one of my easiest costumes. It was very easy to replicate the top and pants and just sew it up. The No Face mask took the most work. We used foam, paper mache, paper clay and then paint. My next post will give step by step instructions and pictures on how I made it.

My name is Irene, but you can call me Reeni. To sum up my life, I graduated from Rutgers University in accounting, finally got my CPA last year, and working full-time. But besides all that boring stuff, I enjoy cosplaying, and keeping up with fashion and beauty blogs. I really admire bloggers who show their sense of style. I've been cosplaying for 7.5 years, but only seriously for the past year. I took a lot of breaks inbetween school and studying and thought I was putting it behind me at one point. When I started to create my own costumes, I remembered how much fun it is to work with my hands and create art. So I thought, with my free time now, I want to record down my current hobbies and life experiences and share it online. Even if no one out there is reading this, it's nice to look back on what I've done. I am still new to blogging, so I would love to read any feedback and advice too.
