Ideal Bridesmaid Dresses
Before I even got engaged, I had ideas on what colors I wanted.  First it was royal blue, then it evolved to tiffany's blue (but it seemed overdone and finding a perfect tiffany blue color in everything is hard! examples i've seen tend to look turquoise and that's not what I'm going for), then robin's egg blue/french blue/light blue.  But after I got engaged, and sharing my ideas with my friends, I found that blue is a popular color, I want to be different.  One of the fashion bloggers I follow, posted a look pairing mint and rose.  That got me thinking.  Mint is a new popular color, and it is also unique.  I started looking all over for mint color bridesmaid dresses.  I saw a picture of bridesmaids in this J.Crew silk chiffon bridesmaid dress in Dusty Shale.  It was perfect.  Not too blue, not too green, not too bold, but a soft romantic color.  My favorite style was "Arabelle" (a strapless, ruched top that starts the skirt at the waist) and i'm also fond of floor length gowns since it isnt done often and is very flattering and flowy.  After I found out more about this dress, I had to give up on it :(  The retail price for the long gown is $350 and the knee-length is $250.  I wanted to pay for all the dresses and my limit was $150.  Even if I asked them to help pay half, its just now worth it.  I will just have to try to find something else.

For some reason, the picture color is off when I upload this.

Finding an Alternative
I looked at Davids Bridal, department stores, and even Etsy.  I almost gave up on mint because I couldn't find a dress and shade that could compare to the J.Crew, that is within my price range.  But here are some of my findings (on color) if any one else is looking for mint bridesmaid dresses:

Dessy in Celadon (too sage/moss green)

Kennedy Blue in Mint (too ice blue)

In 2013 David's Bridal had a reasonable price of $150 for their Long Strapless Chiffon Dress with Pleated Bodice but did not have any colors close to mint.  So it's great to hear they came out with an actual Mint color (too late for me!).

I found some Dusty Shale look-a-likes on Etsy from China sellers, but I did not trust those.  I finally found a Cali seller, RenzRags that makes these dresses in a mint color that resembled dusty shale for about $100!  I was thrilled.  Now I just have to wait til I ask my girls.

The Chosen Dress
While I was waiting, I saw the J.Crew "Taryn" style in knee-length go on final sale for $99.99, plus additional 40% code, making it only $60!  This style is similiar to the "Arabelle" but it is more empire waist style, not tight at the waist.  Not my ideal length and style, but good enough at this price point and quality!  There was only a limited number of sizes left in the Dusty Shale color, but luckily I know all their sizes and they are still available, so I took the risk and bought the dresses before asking them.  If it didn't work out, I'm sure I can resell the dresses and not lose money.  So I finally got started on making "be my bridesmaid?" boxes and gave it to them along with these dresses.  I love when things work out :)
