DIY: Tea Dyed Escort Cards with Keys
Friday, April 29, 2016
May is right around the corner! I still have a few more wedding posts to share before I wrap up my Wedding Diaries. I can't believe it's almost been a year since my wedding day. Please follow my Instagram account @mycutebow for an upcoming month of wedding recap.
One of the wedding details that I made was the escort cards. The idea was inspired by pictures from Pinterest. I tied vintage keys to tea dyed name tags. I bought plain manila tags to use as escort cards. I added several Lipton black tea packets to a big bowl of boiling water. I added the tags in for several minutes. The longer you leave them in the more stained they will look. I laid the tags on paper towels to let them dry. Some of them were curling when they were drying so I put heavy books on top of them. This slows down the drying process but will prevent them from curling. Don't forget to flip them to dry too.
To finish them off I wrote in the names on the tags with a calligraphy pen. Then I tied a ribbon with a vintage key to the tag. I bought the vintage keys from Etsy seller, aniknition. To hang the tags, I bought a cork pin board with white wooden frame from Marshalls. I used pearl pins to attach it onto the board. I also created a sign that said "Please Find the Key to Your Seat". It was a fun project to work on and the setup looked great in our venue's entrance hall.
Thanks for reading!

The wedding team was very supportive. The wedding venues NYC had everything a girl might need. I highly recommend getting ready in the bridal suite. They lit the fireplaces and the views from the suite were exceptional.
ReplyDeleteDo you recall how big your board was that you purchased? Was the background linen or .... ?
ReplyDeleteHi sorry for the late reply! The white boarder of the board was about 20"x28", when I have it on hand i'll get you a better measurement. The background was like a soft burlap, it's a push pin board.
